The City Council appoints a number of citizen committees, boards, and commissions that serve as advisory bodies to the City Council. These bodies play an essential role in the governance of our city and provide the City Council with important input. Committee, board, and commission members serve four-year terms (a maximum of two terms) and may only serve on one committee, board, and commission at a time. If you are interested in serving on a committee, board, or commission, please download the membership application, or contact Julie Toledo at (714) 536-5577, or email julie.toledo@surfcity-hb.org
Each year in December, as required by the State Maddy Act, the City Council approves a list of all those board, commission, and committee members whose terms will expire during the coming year. (Huntington Beach Municipal Code limits membership on its boards, commissions, and committees to two--four year terms.) Terms expiring in 2019, can be found in the Local Appointments List 2019 revised. A list of unscheduled vacancies can be found in Notice of Vacancy Forms.
In order to assist you in selecting a citizen body that would be compatible with the city's needs as well as your interests and qualifications, a brief description of the responsibilities and/or authority delegated to each body is provided below. Click on a board to learn more about its purpose:
